The SWE Tennis League was formed in 1955 and was originally called the Walthamstow and District League. It began as a Mixed League only, with the aim of providing an arena for competitive tennis in the south west of Essex and surrounding areas. It is now open to all LTA affiliated clubs located within those areas and in turn, the SWE League itself is affiliated to the Essex County Lawn Tennis Association.
The Summer League
For 2024, the Summer League comprises of sixteen clubs which together are fielding more than 60 teams across the Men's, Ladies and Mixed Divisions. The summer season has been extended and now runs from early April through to the end of September.
The Winter League
The Winter League for 2023/24 is currently comprised of nine clubs which together field 12 teams across two groups. Each team is made up of two men's pairs and one ladies pair and the winter season typically runs from mid-November through to the end of March.
